My Story

Hello! I am Shruti Kotwal and I am India’s fastest female Ice speed skater. Skating for me started back in 1998 as a hobby. After a lot of training, I decided to take it more seriously and started my journey as a speed skater.

Being a girl and taking up a sport that’s was unknown was a bold move. But all credits to my family who gave me all the courage and support to make this life-changing decision and become a professional.

In 2012, my hard work paid off and I got a scholarship from the International Skating Union. (ISU) Jeremy Wotherspoon, regarded as arguably the world’s greatest speed skaters ever proposed to coach me.

I was overwhelmed and it felt like taking the first step towards my dream. There’s was no looking back after that. My passion for skating only grew with time. My first year of ice skating started with a bronze medal at the Winter National Games held in Kashmir, 2008. I have since then won many national and international awards. Seeing Ice speed skating as a recognized and respected sport in India is something I hope happens soon.

My next big goal is to qualify for the speed skating World Cup next year and represent India at the Winter Olympics 2022.
